My favorite recipes to get you in the kitchen for the month of June covering some seasonal ingredients and comforting meals that just work anytime of the year.
It feels like I was just writing 31 recipes to make in May yesterday. But that was a whole month ago! Honestly it feels so crazy to think that we are already in the month of June. Almost half the year has passed, which is absolutely CRAZY! But here we are and it is June so let us talk about all the recipes you should be cooking and baking this month. I must admit, it is strange for me to say June is peak summer – even though in UAE it is peak summer, as I grew up with June, July, August being monsoon months. So this list includes summer essentials yes but also some monsoon classics.
There are some important food holidays to keep in mind for this month, starting with Pride month, the whole month of June is dedicated to pride so keep a look out for all foods that are colorful and rainbow themed. World milk day should be a good way to get you to make your own almond milk at home 9if you haven’t already done so). June also includes doughnut day, international falafel day (I LOVE LOVE LOVE!!), world gin day, world tapas day (I am excited to do something traditional to Spanish cuisine to celebrate this). Not to mention Eid coming up as well. I mean there are so many more but these are some of the few days to keep a look out for. My sources are: Bite sized traveler and The nibble.
As for ingredients this is the month to enjoy those strawberries, cherries and rhubarb. I have been seeing them everywhere! Also I have been eating my body weight in strawberries lately and I have no regrets! Apart from these you will find apricots, peaches, mangoes, raspberries and blueberries as well. In reference to veggies, you will see summer squash everywhere – make those quiches, fritters, quick bread with them. Corn, peas, lettuce, scallions, eggplant, green beans, radish, cucumbers and spinach. Having said that work with what you have access to and what doesn’t burn a hole in your pocket.
If you try these recipes out, don’t forget to share it with me on pinterest & instagram so I can see how it turned out. I’d love nothing more than to chat with you on your cooking/baking.
