Come along with me to taste 24 limited edition Bonne Maman Spreads that are specially curated for the holiday season.
I saw this advent calendar on TikTok in December 2023 and honestly I’ve been wanting to try it ever since. It was so fascinating to me considering I love their jam and it is the only one we buy in the house (if we aren’t eating home made). I tried buying it on amazon that year couldn’t get it and this year in October I knew I needed to act fast and so I did and so here we are. In saying this I must say I bought it via amazon and it arrived perfectly well and pretty fast! This post is not sponsored or affiliated in anyway. I am just sharing my joy for the spreads.
To start of, the packing is so cute! It has a beautiful detailing on the outer box sleeve and while it may seem like not a lot is happening, if we look closer you can see the level of detail in the sketches from the train, to the mountains, the landscape is so magical and gives me a child like bed time story book comfort. The colors are simple but very festive you cannot go wrong with a classic Christmas red, pine tree green and white all around. The look of the drawing invites adults into the drawing but also invites kids in as well.
When we take out the sleeve the box opens and you are left with an even better landscape that is so detailed. I am taking my time to mention the artistic work of the packaging because a lot of advent calendars have packaging that is not so creative – not discrediting the contents of the calendar but the creative artwork is what I am referring to. This box is so pretty I don’t think I will be throwing it out as it is pretty and very well done. The sketching looks absolutely gorgeous, it seems like a well laid out plan and I really hope the person/people who have worked on this piece of art get to see my appreciation for it.
You know what it is, its not just about the beauty in the artwork – its about the overall story and essence about it. It seems like such a beautiful thought behind the drawing and the aesthetic is very childlike which draws every adult to reminisce but also attracts kids to see whats behind the drawings.
I decided to do the tasting in one morning as I was shooting my review and as I will be working through December it seemed only fitting to get it done ahead of time. I kept drinking water in between to cleanse my palate, as much as I was tempted to do this tasting with bread/scones etc. it seemed only fitting to do it as it is without any additions to be true to the flavors of the jams. I will list out all the flavors of the jams but I will only describe my top flavors as 24 spreads is a lot and while they were all delicious those that stood out deserve to get the recognition.
Each bottle had 28g of spread in it. They were all in the quintessential Bonne maman mini jam bottle and were sealed with a sticker. These stickers need a mention. Each sticker on the back of the bottle was unique to the flavor of the jam. I am not lying. Every single bottle had its own sticker which showed the main ingredients used in the spread – how cute is that?! The detailing is unbelievable, I was so blown away by this!
Side note – every spread had a little note which was so sweet and such a thoughtful gesture.
Apart from the aesthetic of the spreads the ingredients for every spread was simple and clean. There were no gums, additives and chemicals in any of the labels. Infact when I opened the rhubarb and strawberry spread I expected a pink color but saw a dull pinkish grey color and it reminded me that there are no artificial colors in this – which is why I trust them and love them so much.
There were an assortment of jams and spreads to make up the 24 line up, however a couple of the flavors did vary from the original box I saw online – was I mad about it? No. Was I excited for those flavors instead of the usual ones? Yes I was but I am more happy than upset about it.
I didn’t receive the chocolate orange spread, vanilla caramel, hazelnut chocolate spread in place of which I received another pineapple, another quince, rhubarb and strawberry and another fig spread. I must say I did receive all 24 different.
This was the highlight for me. It was so delicious, tasted just like guava cheese (an Indian sweet made during the Christmas season). The smell, color, texture and overall taste was perfection! I would eat a jar of this on repeat.
If Christmas cake was a jam, this one would be it. It was fruity but packed with spice and so warming. I absolutely LOVED this one. It would be perfect with a pound cake or vanilla ice cream as well. Apt for Christmas.
When I say this taste liked strawberries on steroids, I mean it. It was absolutely wild how WILD strawberries can be so flavorful and delicious. I my head this is what strawberries taste like but we don’t eat strawberries that taste so delicious without spending an arm and a leg for it any more. Hence this conserve was literally the best strawberry jam/spread I’ve had (after homemade).
Yes I know its not a jam and more of a spread but this coffee caramel was not to sweet and had the right amount of coffee in it. Let alone the fact that it had the perfect spreading consistency. Also, it is such a pretty looking color, not you dull brown but more of a classic wood nut brown.
When I read this I was like oh this is going to be citrus vibes, then I tasted it and was like OH THIS IS CITRUS VIBES! The top of my head blew off and I was like this is so citrusy and fresh but also had a winter citrus note to it. With bits of orange peel in the spread as well!
This spread was giving me fall/autumn more than it was giving me Christmas but hey it was still at the top of my list of favorites. The wild blueberry chunks were so delicious and fresh – I could totally add into into my cinnamon rolls and id be so happy.
Apart from these I did enjoy the pear and cocoa nib conserve which was very yummy and the cocoa bits were so good. The mixed berry is a classic and cannot be wronged in any way. Not to mention the apple, quince and pine honey which tasted like apple pie filling that was fit for angels.
I have enough jam/spreads to keep me going all through the festive season. In saying this I must admit it has been such a joy to spend the little morning moments with my mum and dad over the weekend in the last fews tasting and debating these flavors. It has become a thing we look forward to and absolutely enjoy. I am so grateful and lucky to be able to have got my self a box and shared it with my folks. If you would like to buy one head to amazon and you should be able to order it to you – provided they aren’t already sold out.
For now I will end this here and say thanks for reading and happy eating xx
