A delicious round up of recipes to cook and bake this July. With simple and elaborate recipes this list has a little something for everyone to get into the kitchen.
July has always been a transformative month for me, I could be biased to the month as it is my birth month but I’ve always felt that it is a month to review the first half of the year gone by, reassess the goals for the rest of the year and tune up the lens for the remaining part of the year. Having said that it is also a month filled with freshness, vibrancy and summer in full bloom (in most parts of the world), it brings ripest of veggies and fruits to your markets. Making for a very inspiring month to get into the kitchen and try your hand at new recipes. With the temperatures soaring high it is good to make cooling recipes to beat the heat but also to make easy recipes that don’t have you slaving in the kitchen for hours on end. Having said this it is monsoon season in some parts of the world as well so we do need a few comforting recipes to accompany you through the season.
My aim is to get you to cook or bake something you have not so that you can learn about new ingredients but also new cultures through food. There are some very obvious food events in this month that are a great way to learn more about the history and significance of many important holidays, like the 4th of July in America or 14th July in France (Bastille day). You will see a lot of American flag related foods and recipes online but also a surge in French confectionery as well. Having said this there we have a very important day this month that celebrates one of our most beloved ingredient of all time: chocolate, 7th July is world chocolate day which is the perfect day to get baking some of the most delicious recipes of all time. I have listed out some of my most favorite recipes for this month below which include a bunch of cooking and baking inspired recipes.
If you are looking to cook and bake seasonally which is what we should aim to do – this month is full of cucumbers and courgettes. So don’t be afraid to make those salads, quiches, starters and veggie packed main course. You will easily find broad beans – even though you don’t need to go out of your way to make anything with them since it is not everyones cup of tea but it is good to try new things. The usual suspects of peas, spinach and avocado will be easily available to make that guacamole, or pasta. If you hate broccoli then give my soup and bake a go to convert your mind. As for other veggies – ingredients like corn, beetroot and fennel are also very much in bloom at the moment. If you don’t know, I am a sucker for all things corn. So get creative and make the most of it. You will see a lot of salad greens in vibrancy which is perfect to get cracking on summer salad season.
In reference to fruits, don’t be shy to use all those tomatoes you see (yes she is a fruit). I have so many recipes using them in a variety of ways. They are so delicious when perfectly ripe and if there was a time for them to be at their peak then now is the time. Use them in your salads, appetizers, sauces, soups, etc. Stone fruit starts to shine in this month, not fully but begins to show itself. Be ready to see fruit like peaches, cherries, apricots, nectarines and plums. Having said this don’t forget to make the most of your berries, blueberries, strawberries and black berries are very much still in good shape to use in your cakes, pies, desserts and breakfast recipes. If you are feeling fomo on any of these fruit, run don’t walk and buy them in wholesale to make jam or preserve to prolong the freshness of the season.
If you try these recipes out, don’t forget to share it with me on pinterest & instagram so I can see how it turned out. I’d love nothing more than to chat with you on your cooking/baking.
