This coffee based cocktail is perfect for St Patricks Day that is coming. Filled with Irish whiskey, brown sugar and freshly brewed coffee, makes for a delicious hot drink. It is topped with cold whipped cream, it is simple and easy to make.
There are many ways to make this drink. Honestly the origin for it goes back to the 19th century and there are many debates on where it came from. Some people say it was first made in San Francisco but perfected in Ireland. Some stories say it was created by Joe Sheridan who was working at Foynes Port near Limerick. Others say it was first found in Germany. So wherever the drink originated, it has become a trademark drink Ireland.
With St Patricks Day around the corner, it seemed only fitting to make this recipe and get started not he festivities. I have used Jameson Irish Whiskey to make this cocktail but you can use any whiskey you like. The recipe has many variations where it can use Kahlua, Baileys, Chocolate liqueur or even chocolate shavings but I personally like it simple. I used brown sugar here you can use white sugar, maple syrup or any sweetener of your choice. You could use a little vanilla extract to make this drink more of a dessert as well.
Doesn’t take much to make this as everything is mixed in the glass and the whipped cream is spooned over the top. As for the serving glass you need a heat proof glass with a handle as the coffee is hot.
The cocktail is sweet because of the brown sugar and it is heavy because of the whipped cream. Its got a good kick thanks to the coffee making for a delicious drink. I would recommend serving this at the end of a meal with any chocolate based dessert. Doesn’t mean you couldn’t serve this in the morning with fresh fruit pies or even pastries like croissants. You could serve this with a quiche or even with a bagel sandwich. It is delicious with a cheeseboard that has some blue cheese, camembert and ricotta. Speaking of cheese, it also works well with cheesecake. If you want to serve it with main course options, stick to meat, like roasted lamb.
Now that we have covered how to make this recipe, let us make it. Happy Drinking Ninjas!
