Healthy Chicken Burgers

These chicken mince burgers are so simple to make and come together very quickly. They are healthier but juicy and very delicious. The easiest and tastiest mid week meal to prepare.

I don’t post savory recipe here as much as I should. Honestly, it is because I always feel intimidated to share my preferences in cooking as it can be very subjective. There are some recipes that I absolutely love though and sharing them is a no brainer. Like these healthy chicken burgers, they are healthier for you, so yummy and very juicy. You might already have most of the ingredients in your pantry at the moment. They make for a very delicious mid week meal that is delicious.

I posted a few back to school videos for my mum when she started school again this yeas (for those who don’t know she is a special educator at Gems) and these burgers were on the menu for one of the videos, I received over 15 messages (doesn’t seem like a lot now that I type this out, lol!) asking me for the recipe so here we are but the beauty about this recipe is that you can customize it your liking.

What makes these chicken burgers healthy?

Using fresh chicken breast mince keeps these burger lean and the addition of veg in them adds fibre but also flavor. We do not deep fry them but pan fry them in a little olive oil to keep them light and fresh.

What ingredients are needed to make these healthy chicken burgers?

To make the patty we need ground chicken breast (chicken mince or turkey mince works here), carrot, zucchini, garlic, green chili, cilantro, onion, egg, parmesan cheese, bread, salt, pepper, oregano. I like stuffing the pattys/cutlets with slice cheese pieces so once it cooks the center has gooey melted cheese.

What equipment is needed to make these healthy chicken burgers?

To make the burgers we need food processor to grind the ingredients together. I have used my hands to shape the burgers but you could use a round burger mould as well. They are fried in a sauté pan over the stove.

How to make these healthy chicken burgers?

In a food processor add the onion, garlic and green chili. Process until it is fine. Add the carrot, zucchini and grind again until even. Add the chicken mince, egg, cheese, bread, salt, pepper, oregano and fresh cilantro. Process until combined. Divide the mixture into 8 large balls or 12 smaller balls. Flatten each ball and form into patties, you can use olive oil on your hands for this. At this stage you can add slice cheese into the center of the patties to get a gooey cheese filling. In a sauté pan on medium heat add a little olive oil and cook the burger for 2-3 minutes on each side until they have a golden brown color and cooked through. Hit the cooked patties with lime juice while warm. Serve them as burgers like I have with the addition of yogurt mixed with minced garlic and lemon juice, fresh spinach leaves and potato buns with hot sauce, green chutney and tamarind sauce,

Serving these healthy chicken burgers?

These burgers are delicious to on its own but are even better with a potato bun, garlic yogurt, spinach leaves and hot sauce. You can make them with the addition of cream cheese or slice cheese as well. If you are not wrapping it for a lunch take away then add onions, tomatoes and cucumbers as well. All jalapeños, pickles or lettuce to add more flavor and texture to the burgers. They are perfect for lunch, brunch, dinner, a snack or even for breakfast.

Storing these healthy chicken burgers?

The cooked patties can be stored in air tight containers in the fridge for up to 1 week. I would recommend reheating in the microwave for 20 seconds or until warm. Once the burgers are assembled wrap them in baking paper and foil, store in the fridge for 1 day and they travel perfectly for lunch.
