These high protein bowls are packed with cottage cheese, ground beef, sweet potato, avocado and drizzled with hot honey. It is a simple, sweet, savory, spicy and a healthy meal to prepare in little time.
This gluten free, low carb viral hot honey ground beef bowl has been trending on all the social media platforms lately. I have seen it everywhere and I was wondering how would it taste, especially with the hot honey. Trust me when I say, I could not finish the bowl. It was so filling and wholesome that I couldn’t eat everything. The recipe is very simple but balanced and wholesome. I cannot take credit for this recipe as it is a rip of the original by a creator by the name of Gracie Norton, her recipe is what made me try it out.
With high protein diets all the rage these days this recipe will definitely fit into your plan and trust me you will be making it on repeat every week. I have swapped the beef for ground chicken and turkey which is delicious as well! However you can also opt for tuna and salmon which tastes yummy! The recipe doesn’t have many components so I wouldn’t suggest substituting any of them. In saying this you can add a few seasonings and low calorie foods like cucumber, celery and tomatoes to add more volume if you feel like you need to eat more – even though these bowls are very filling. So let us get to it.
To make the bowls we need ground beef – I have cooked it in garam masala, garlic, ginger, salt, pepper and cumin powder with lime juice. You could just do a pre mixed taco seasoning. We serve it with roasted sweet potato, avocado, cottage cheese and finish it with hot honey.
To make the ground beef we need a sauté pan and spatula. A knife to cut into the avocado. I have roasted the sweet potato in the oven on a baking tray but you could steam it or even air fry them as you like.
Roast or air fry sweet potatoes until tender. I cooked mine in oven at 200 degrees C for 15 minutes with oil, salt and pepper. In a sauté pan, brown the lean ground beef over medium heat, breaking it up as it cooks through. Add the garam masala, cumin powder, garlic, ginger, salt, pepper and mix well. Add bone broth and continue to cook on low heat for 10 minutes. Once cooked through, set aside. In a serving bowl add the cooked ground beef, cottage cheese, avocado and sweet potato. Drizzle over the hot honey and serve.
If you do not have hot honey and do not want to buy it, let us make it at home. Heat 1/2 cup honey with 2 tbsp red chili flakes, 1/2 tsp paprika powder, 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper powder. Let this come to a simmer. Take off the heat, let it cool down and strain it through a fine mesh strainer. Add 1 tsp apple cider vinegar and stir well before storing in a jar. Use as needed, it keeps for months.
The leftovers can be stored individually in air tight containers in the fridge for up to 3 days. The cottage cheese shelf life will be written on the packaging. For the avocado, it will get brown within hours so I wouldn’t suggest storing it. The hot honey can be stored in a bottle at room temperature for weeks.
