Equipment

  • Small stock pot
  • Spoon
  • Fine mesh strainer
  • Glass jar

Ingredients

  • 1 Pear
  • 2 tbsp Sugar
  • 2-3 drops Almond extract
  • 1/2 Vanilla bean
  • Pinch of Salt
  • 3/4 cup Water

Instructions

  • Chop the pear and add it with all the ingredients to a small stock pot. Place on high heat until rapidly boiling with the lid.
  • Remove the lid and let it boil for 5 minutes. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10 mins with the lid on. We want to reduce it by 1/4.
  • Take off the heat, blend and strain it gently through a fine mesh strainer. We don’t want the pulp in this syrup, hence don’t push too much through the fiber.
  • Pour into a glass jar. Let it cool completely before you close it and label. T
  • his doesn’t last long in my house - within 10 days it is over. If you would like it to last longer make a larger quantity. Also, it must be refrigerated.

Notes

  • Do not throw out the pear pulp! - I have another recipe coming out next using the pear to make a delicious condiment. So it doesn’t got to waster - I make sure of that.
