Do I celebrate cinco de mayo? Not in the actual sense. But do I like using food as a medium to learn more about other celebrations and cultures? Yes very much so. I absolutely love Mexican food and culture, it is filled with history, flavor, so much vibrancy and love. The food is unmatched and has such a global foot print. I am always worried to share authentic recipes that have tradition and so much meaning because I feel like I would never be able to do them justice.

Quick history session: What is cinco de mayo? Cinco de mayo is an annual celebration on 5th May celebrating Mexico’s victory over the second French empire at the battle of Puebla in 1862 led by general Ignacio. 2000 mexican soldiers defeated 6000 French soldiers in this battle in a small town in east central Mexico. On this day they celebrate with food, drink, dance, music and gatherings.

Having said this – I like to use ideas and flavors from recipes that I enjoy and recreate them to make something else. Hence a lot of the recipes you will see in the list below might not be traditional but still showcases the culture and the joy these recipes bring. There is something for everyone in this list and if you have not tried any of them before, do not let it scare you away.
