Christmas movie recipe inspiration #6 with this easy cocktail recipe that is perfect for parties and is filled with all the festive flavors like citrus, cranberries, ginger beer, apples and vodka.
Welcome to my brand new Christmas recipe series where I make foods/recipes from my favourite Christmas movies. We are on the sixth movie recipe with Remember the night and Christmas Moscow Mule. If you missed the previous movies, check out them out in my recipes page.Â
Growing up I loved decorating the house in November for Christmas. Once it hit 15th November, my tree and lights were up, I might have taken time to put everything else up as the month progressed but the tree and lights set the mood and the vibes were in full swing. I would put off all the other lights in the house, in the evening and turn on the festive lights. Switch on my favorite Christmas movie and in those days we needed to have CD’s, which I must say I did. Not much has changed since. I get started with my Christmas movies the moment the tree and lights are up. As I’ve grown up, I have noticed the food scenes in these movies with more intent and honestly I love them so much it inspired me to recreate some of these recipes. Hence I am here at the brink of a new series and so excited to share my love for Christmas movies and their food scenes with you.Â
There is no direct connection of this cocktail and movie. I LOVE Remember the night, its an oldie but a Goldie. I watched it almost 2 decades ago and I will never forget when I watched it at home with my grandfather he was having a Moscow mule, even though he didn’t know what a Moscow mule was, the cocktail was made for him and he enjoyed it. He would watch movies on TNT which was basically black and white classic films. However during the holidays they would play Christmas movies such as this one. Since then I watch it every year during the holidays and I have bumped up the Moscow mule to a Christmas Moscow Mule. Papu (grandpa) wasn’t one for fancy cocktails but he wouldn’t mind having one if it was made for him. I wish I could make this for him today but I’ll have one on his behalf. Cheers Papu.Â
A Moscow mule is a vodka based cocktail, lime juice that is topped with ginger beer. There are many variations and ingredients you can add into it. It is commonly served in a copper glass to keep the drink chilled longer. I have take the classic and turned it into this Christmas Moscow mule with the addition of orange, apple, cranberries and sage instead of mint.Â
To make this cocktail we need vodka, Cointreau, orange juice, lime juice, fresh cranberries, apple slices, bitters, ginger beer, star anise and sage leaves. Now if you cannot find ginger beer, use regular beer and a little freshly grated ginger for that spice kick. There are a lot of garnishes in this drink which you don’t need to add but I think are good additions for the cocktail. We need a copper mug to make this cocktail and serve it as well. If you want to make a large quantity of the cocktail, stir it up in a jug and pour into mugs, top with ginger beer on the spot, garnish and serve.
In a copped glass add ice, vodka, Cointreau, bitters, lime juice, orange juice and stir. Add the cranberries, and top with ginger beer. Garnish with apple slices, lime slices, orange peel and fresh sage leaves. You can use mint leaves instead of the sage leaves. Serve it immediately once the beer is poured as it will not last.Â
Pair this drink with grilled chicken, serve it with pasta or even fish. If you want to serve it with a vegetarian options, my warm rice salad or Mac n cheese is a good idea.Â
My next recipe will be based on the Christmas movie Elf, make sure to stay tuned and subscribe to my newsletters to get notified when post new recipes.
