Hot masala chai poured over vanilla ice cream that is a simple dessert that just happens to be perfect for the summer. It is delicious but cooling and refreshing.
So I must mention that I love masala chai, hot masala chai. This means it is very rare I will post an iced chai recipe. However when I thought about masala chai affogato I was immediately looking for a recipe to try it out. I have made a traditional affogato before, so purists please don’t come for me. I know what an affogato is. This is just a twist on the classic for all those chai lovers.
You can check out my affogato recipe here and my homemade masala chai recipe here. Everyone needs a good masala chai recipe and I have covered all the aspects in my masala chai recipe blog so make sure to check that out. I would recommend to serve this as a dessert. Usually we serve masala chai for breakfast, tea time, when there are guests or after a heavy meal hence I would recommend serving this recipe for a quick dessert/after meal drink dessert situation.
If you don’t want to make the masala chai from scratch you can use a masala chai tea bag brewed with water and milk. The only thing to keep in mind in this recipe is that we need very strong masala chai, hence reduce the milk in it. I have used vanilla ice cream but cardamom ice cream, saffron ice cream, rose ice cream are all great options here. Serve it with rusk like how you would masala chai and enjoy. You could also serve it with biscuits. To make this recipe VEGAN make sure to use a vegan milk while making the masala chai and a plant based ice cream to serve.
Now that we have covered how to make Masala Chai Affogato, you can have a look at the recipe video on my socials but let’s get to it. Don’t forget to follow along for more fun recipe inspiration.
If you try this recipe out, don’t forget to share it with me on instagram so I can see how it turned out. I’d love nothing more than to chat with you on your cooking/baking.
