5 Minute Hot Mocha

A simple recipe that needs no introduction as the name says it all. Filled with coffee, cocoa, dark chocolate, cream and milk it is a hot drink perfect for winter evenings.

If I were to have a hot drink that is not hot chocolate it has to be this 5 Minute Hot Mocha. It is simple, delicious, easy and very satisfying. You don’t need much to make it and little goes a long way. You can make this a double or triple batch if you are feeding a crowd but this recipe makes enough for one comforting mug.

To make this recipe we need milk – now if you are using any plant based milk you must use the barista style milk as we need to bring the mixture to a boil and any other plant based milk will not work here. If you want a no milk recipe check out my No milk hot chocolate recipe. What makes this a mocha is the instant coffee powder and cocoa powder, I like using dutch processed cocoa which gives it an deep, dark intense flavor but does overpower the coffee. You can use any coffee you like or have on hand. I also add little dark chocolate into the hot mocha for creaminess. If you don’t have dark you can use milk chocolate but adjust the sweetness of your maple syrup.

Top the drink with gently whipped cream and grated dark chocolate. Now here are my add on options, you can add a little vanilla extract, orange zest, cinnamon or even some brandy into the mocha. They are really good flavor additions. I personally love adding a little vanilla but most often than not I make it without. Everything goes into a pot and the mixture is brought to a vigorous boil. Pour into mugs and top with heavy cream and grated chocolate.

Food Pairing –

This is a sweet drink so I would recommend serving this with breakfast items or even brunch. A few options would be the bakery style chicken puffs, falafels, eggs Benedict, Bacon and eggs butter etc. Have a look at the recipe section for more inspiration.

Now that we have covered how to make this 5 Minute Hot Mocha, you can have a look at the recipe video on my socials but let’s get to it.

If you try this recipe out, don’t forget to share it with me on instagram so I can see how it turned out. I’d love nothing more than to chat with you on your cooking/baking.
