Halloween themed drinks are a lot of fun and this cocktail is filled with all the goodness for a perfect vodka martini however, the addition of caramel sauce and edible glitter makes for a poisoned apple martini.
The run up to Halloween is real. I have never been one to celebrate and go trick or treating but I have enjoyed the candy and Halloween inspired food. I think it is one of the most creative occasions to make food and drinks look spooky and creepy in the best way possible.
Having said this, the recipe today is not your average Apple Martini. It is a spin off the Poisoned Ivy drink mixed with the ever sinful and indulgent apple from the garden of Eden. I have added a few tricks to make it sparkle and stand out.
The addition of Salted Caramel Sauce with Apple Juice is harmony in its best form. Any caramel sauce works with this recipe. You can use the caramel syrup from pancake syrups also. But you can’t use honey or maple syrup here as it needs that little bitterness from the caramel to off set the sweetness. Find my homemade Salted Caramel Sauce recipe here.
My favorite part of this drink has to be the edible glitter. Now you can get this at baking stores or supermarkets that sell baking supplies. You can also use edible luster dust here. This gives the drinks a shine and glow of some sort which is magnificent since it is a Poison Apple Martini. Since it is an apple martini you need apple juice, fresh of bottled works fine. You could use pear juice of plum juice but then its not an apple martini any more.
As with any martini you need a little fancy martini glass to serve but its Halloween and no one is going to check your table etiquette so use anything you got and it will work itself out. I like to garnish with drink with a piece of star anise and a dusting of cinnamon powder. But you can leave it out.
Food pairing: Ideally this drink Paris well with fruit pies, fruit salads etc. I would recommend serving this with a cheeseboard filled with crackers and dry fruits, nuts, and veggies as well. A roasted squash salad with kale and feta would also work well with this cocktail. Camembert or Brie are great cheeses to serve with it.
Now that we have covered this, let us get shaking. You can watch how I made it here. Happy Drinking Ninjas!
