Learn how to make juicy, crispy rotisserie chicken in the Nutricook Air Fryer 2 with this easy whole chicken recipe, plus tips for perfect results every time all in under an hour.

5 chickens, 5 days. That is what happened when I opened my new gadget because the first ever rotisserie chicken I ever made turned out PERFECT, image below as a reference. There is something undeniably comforting about a rotisserie chicken. Maybe it’s the aroma that slowly fills the kitchen, or the crackle of perfectly golden skin as you carve into it. It’s one of those meals that feels both effortless and special—a roast that can anchor a leisurely Sunday lunch, simplify a busy weeknight, or provide leftovers for lunches throughout the week. But what is BETTER than a good old roast chicken is a classic rotisserie chicken recipe that comes together in under an hour and requires minimal effort from you.

For years, I associated rotisserie chicken with supermarket deli counters. It was the dinner I’d pick up when I wanted something easy but satisfying. Then I realised how simple it is to recreate those same flavours at home—and, dare I say, even better. This Nutricook Air Fryer 2 Rotisserie Chicken recipe delivers everything you love about a classic roast chicken: beautifully crisp skin, juicy meat, aromatic herbs, and rich flavour. The difference is that an air fryer rotisserie option makes the process faster, uses very little oil, and doesn’t require you to marinate the chicken ahead.

The chicken cooks up beautifully with crisp skin, stays wonderfully juicy, and cooks alongside vegetables for a complete meal with very little effort. Why You’ll Love This Air Fryer Rotisserie Chicken:

  • There are countless ways to cook a whole chicken, but an air fryer has quickly become one of my favourite.
  • No marinating is needed for the chicken and no preheating is needed for the air fryer, saving time.
  • The circulating hot air creates wonderfully crisp skin while locking moisture into the meat, giving you that coveted rotisserie-style finish without needing a dedicated rotisserie oven. The result is a crispy air fryer chicken that’s deeply golden on the outside and succulent on the inside.
  • It’s also wonderfully practical. Most of the chicken becomes dinner tonight, sandwiches tomorrow, a quick pasta the next day, and perhaps even a homemade chicken soup before the week is over.

Tips for the Best Air Fryer Rotisserie Chicken

  1. Dry Skin Equals Crispy Skin – Removing surface moisture before seasoning is the easiest way to encourage beautifully crisp skin.
  2. Season Generously – A whole chicken can handle plenty of seasoning, so don’t be shy.
  3. Use a Meat Thermometer – Cooking times vary depending on the size of your chicken. The most reliable indicator is an internal temperature of 75°C (165°F).
  4. Cook Your Sides Together – Take advantage of the dual baskets by roasting vegetables alongside the chicken. It’s an effortless way to prepare an entire meal in one appliance.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can you cook a whole chicken in an air fryer?

Absolutely. An air fryer circulates hot air around the chicken, producing crisp skin while keeping the meat juicy and tender. Make sure the chicken is not larger than 1kg as it will not fit into the air fryer to rotate like rotisserie chicken needs.

How long does it take to cook a whole chicken in the Nutricook Air Fryer 2?

A chicken weighing between 800g – 1kg typically cooks in around 35-40 minutes at 190°C (375°F) under the rotiss setting.

Do I need to flip the chicken?

No. The circulating hot air and the skewer rotates automatically, cooking the chicken evenly without needing to turn it.

How do I keep air fryer chicken juicy?

Avoid overcooking and always allow the chicken to rest before carving.

Can I cook vegetables at the same time?

No. The chicken will take up space in the air fryer and you won’t be able to cook anything else as it needs space to rotate, once the chicken is cooked through and resting the vegetables/side dishes can be cooked.

Equipment

  • Nutricook Air Fryer 2 with rotisserie spit accessory

Ingredients

  • 1 whole chicken approximately 800g-1kg max
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tsp flaky salt
  • 2 tsp freshly cracked black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 2 tsp dried herbs
  • 1 lemon halved (optional)
  • A few sprigs of fresh thyme or rosemary optional

Instructions

Prepare the Chicken -

  • Pat the chicken completely dry using paper towels. This is one of the simplest ways to achieve wonderfully crisp skin.
  • Rub the chicken with olive oil before coating it generously with the seasoning mixture. Don't forget to season inside the cavity as well.
  • If using, place the lemon halves and fresh herbs inside the cavity for extra flavour.

Secure the Chicken -

  • Tie the legs together with kitchen twine and tuck the wings underneath to encourage even cooking.
  • Insert the rotisserie spit through the centre of the chicken, making sure it is balanced evenly. Secure both ends with the rotisserie forks, tightening them firmly so the chicken stays in place as it rotates.
  • Place the assembled rotisserie spit into the Nutricook Air Fryer 2, ensuring it is properly positioned.

Air Fry the Chicken -

  • Cook at 190°C (375°F) under the rotiss option for approximately 35-40 minutes, depending on the size of your chicken.
  • The chicken is ready once the thickest part of the breast and thigh reaches an internal temperature of 75°C (165°F) and if you poke the area with a knife the juices will run clear.

Let It Rest -

  • Allow the chicken to rest for 10–15 minutes before carving. Although it's tempting to cut into it immediately, resting allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, keeping every slice beautifully moist. In this time you can roast the veggies or heat the sides.

Notes

  • Make sure to secure the chicken legs and the skewer well to ensure the spit functions as it should. If you are confused check the manual for more information.
  • Use any dry rub or wet marination to season the chicken but I have made it with so many variations which have all been wonderful.
