Caramelized Banana Latte

Creamy and delicious banana milk poured over espresso and ice to make this very yummy and simple but elevated morning coffee. It is more dessert vibes than drink vibes and perfect to cool down in summer.

It has been a while since I have posted a drinks recipe. This is not because I don’t enjoy a good drink but because I have felt a lack of motivation to share any thing that truly felt inspiring to share. So coming from someone who doesn’t drink coffee much (or at all) this caramelized banana latte will not disappoint. The flavors are unlike any other latte I have tried. To be honest you don’t need the milk to make the banana “milk” as I have made it with water too and it is delicious but the milk adds a rich layer of creaminess.

To make this latte we need strong black coffee or espresso. I have made this coffee in the Moka pot but you can use a French press or any other way you make your coffee. It works perfectly well with instant coffee too so don’t stress to much. The beauty about this recipe is the simplicity and ease of preparation but the supreme flavor you get at the end. For the caramelized banana latte we need ripe bananas, butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt and milk. I also like adding water to thin it out. If you don’t like cinnamon – leave it out or add a dash of cardamom instead.

What can you serve this Caramelized Banana Latte with?

You can  serve this latte for breakfast, brunch or any time of the day. It is heavier than a regular latte with the addition of banana hence I would suggest pairing it with a lighter meal. My crunchy granola is a good idea, alternatively you can serve it with my breakfast tacos, or a slice of my breakfast fruit loaf. If you prefer a savory option then the crustless quiche is a good way to go. To be honest there is no right or wrong meal but stick to a lighter meal to truly enjoy the latte.

Make ahead options:

You can make the milk ahead and store it in the fridge in a bottle for up to 3 days. Shake the bottle and stir before pouring over your coffee or drinking it on its own. Trust me this milk is so good and very simple but it tastes delicious on its own as well. You can add chopped nuts into the milk on its own and a little protein to make it a whole breakfast on the go situation.

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 5 minutes
Course Breakfast, Brunch, Drinks, High Tea, Snack, Sweet tooth, tea time
Cuisine American
Servings 2 glasses

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Sauté pan
  • Rubber spatula
  • Glasses

Ingredients

  • 1 large banana
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 2 cups milk
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup strong coffee
  • 1 cup ice

Instructions

  • In a sauté pan on medium heat add the butter, brown sugar, bananas and cook for 2-3 minutes until caramelized. The color will be deep brown and have a bitter sweet smell. Do not let it burn.
  • While the bananas and caramel is still warm transfer it to a blender, add the cinnamon, vanilla, salt and milk. Blend until smooth, adjust the consistency with water if you need to think it out.
  • In a large glass add ice, pour over the coffee and top with the banana milk.
  • This recipe makes 2 glasses.

Notes

  • Once the bananas are caramelized blend it with the remaining ingredients until smooth immediately or else the caramel will get hard and wont blend smoothly.
  • Serve it hot or cold but I prefer it cold.
  • You can make one glass and store the extra milk in a bottle in the fridge.
