50+ Recipes To Make In September 2026 (Cozy Fall Transition Edition)

Craving cozy comfort food as summer fades? Here are 50+ of my favorite September recipes — apple bakes, pumpkin desserts, cookies, breads, easy weeknight dinners and warm drinks to kick off fall.

Can we talk about how September is already here and its surprising to me that we are officially in the “ber” months of the yer. Also, I’ve always felt it is honestly the trickiest month to cook for? One day it still feels like the peak of summer (looking at you, Dubai), and the next day someone posts a pumpkin latte on Instagram and suddenly you’re craving cinnamon and everything spice. I’m always a little early to the fall party in my head and a little late to it in the kitchen, because the heat here just doesn’t get the memo. So this month’s lineup is exactly that in-between mood — a mix of light, fresh recipes for the days that still feel like summer, and warm, cozy bakes for the evenings that finally feel like fall is on its way.

I’ve pulled together a big list below, organized so it’s easy to scroll through: breakfast, baked goods and desserts, savory mains and snacks, cookies and bars, and drinks. Everything here has already been tested, photographed and loved in my own kitchen, so you know exactly what you’re getting into. Let’s get into it!

Important Food Events in September

September always sneaks up with a surprising number of food holidays and cultural celebrations worth cooking for. World Samosa Day falls early in the month, International Chocolate Day lands mid-month, and World Paella Day wraps things up toward the end. It’s also back-to-school season across most of the world, which in my house means quicker breakfasts and lunches that still feel special. And depending on the year, this is often the month for Ganesh Chaturthi and Onam celebrations too, both of which come with their own beautiful food traditions I love cooking through.

What’s In Season This Month

September produce is doing double duty between summer and fall, which is honestly my favorite kind of grocery haul. On the vegetable side, look out for green beans, eggplant, all varieties of mushrooms, cabbage, broccoli, carrots, butternut squash, artichokes, corn, bell peppers, radishes, kale and garlic. On the fruit side, pumpkins start showing up more, along with juicy figs, apples, grapes, pears, melons, nectarines and plums — basically, any stone fruit is going to be at its best right now. Let that guide what you cook this month, because in-season produce genuinely makes everything taste better with less effort.

If you make any of these, I’d love to see it — tag me on Instagram or Pinterest so I can cheer you on. September is all about easing in, not rushing the season, so pick whatever feels right for the week you’re having — a light noodle bowl on the hot days, a pumpkin bake on the cooler ones. Happy cooking and baking, and here’s to a delicious start to fall!
