Discover 50+ cozy recipes to make in October, from pumpkin and apple desserts to fall baking recipes, comforting dinners and fun Halloween treats. Perfect for cozy autumn cooking and baking!
October is officially here, which means we have entered my favourite part of fall. Pumpkin season is in full swing, apples are making their way into everything, cinnamon and brown butter are basically permanent residents in my kitchen and, of course, Halloween is just around the corner.
October is such a fun month for food because it really feels like the season has settled in. September is that transition period where I am still pretending summer exists, but October? October is when I fully give in to cozy season. And while I live somewhere where the weather does not exactly scream *crisp autumn morning*, I can absolutely create the feeling in my kitchen. A loaf of pumpkin bread baking in the oven, cinnamon rolls for breakfast, something warm and apple-filled for dessert and a comforting bowl of pumpkin gnocchi for dinner is pretty much my idea of October perfection.
So I have pulled together some of my favourite October recipes — recipes that are perfect for fall baking, cozy dinners, Halloween parties, weekend brunches and those moments when you simply want the kitchen to smell amazing and inviting. This list includes pumpkin recipes (homemade pumpkin pie spice recipe is here btw), apple desserts, cozy baking recipes, Halloween treats, easy dinners, breakfast ideas and a few fun seasonal drinks. Basically, everything I want to cook and bake throughout October. Let’s get into it!
October is, of course, all about Halloween. It is the month when I start thinking about spooky treats, Halloween parties, themed desserts and recipes that can be made a little more fun with some simple decorating. But Halloween isn’t the only reason October is exciting for food. It is also peak cozy-season cooking and baking, which means pumpkin, apples, cinnamon, maple, brown butter, chocolate, warming spices and comforting savoury dishes all deserve a place on the table. For me, October is when I stop trying to resist the cozy recipes and simply lean into them. Not to mention it has International Coffee day on October 1st, World Porridge day on October 10th, World food day on October 16th and World Pasta Day on October 25th.Â
October is one of my favourite months for seasonal ingredients. Apples are a huge part of autumn baking and work beautifully in everything from apple crumble and galettes to cakes, scones and pancakes. Pumpkin is obviously another October staple, whether you are using pumpkin puree in cakes and breads or turning it into a savoury dinner or bunch salad. Then there are all the flavours that make something taste like fall even when the ingredient itself isn’t necessarily seasonal — cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, maple syrup, brown sugar, vanilla, brown butter, pecans, walnuts and chocolate.
These are the flavours I naturally reach for when I want something to feel warm and comforting. And because Halloween falls at the end of the month, October is also the perfect excuse to make desserts that are a little more playful. Think chocolate cupcakes, hand pies shaped like ghosts, spooky cookies and Halloween-inspired snacks. So, if you are looking for October recipes, fall baking recipes, autumn desserts or Halloween food ideas, this is where I would start.
If there is one thing I want from October food, it is comfort. I want pumpkin and apple. I want cinnamon and brown butter. I want maple syrup, chocolate, warm spices and toasted nuts. I want something baking in the oven while I make coffee. I want dinner to be served in big bowls and dessert to be eaten warm with vanilla ice cream. And then there is Halloween, which gives us permission to make everything just a little bit more fun.
So whether you are looking for easy October recipes, fall baking recipes, autumn desserts, pumpkin recipes, apple desserts, cozy dinner ideas or Halloween treats, I hope this list gives you plenty to cook and bake your way through the month. October is officially here, and I am very ready for it. Put the kettle on, preheat the oven and let’s make something cozy. Happy October, and happy cooking and baking!
If you make any of these, I’d love to see it — tag me on Instagram or Pinterest so I can cheer you on. September is all about easing in, not rushing the season, so pick whatever feels right for the week you’re having — a light noodle bowl on the hot days, a pumpkin bake on the cooler ones. Happy cooking and baking, and here’s to a delicious start to fall!
